Abstract
Paterson, New Jersey is a case study of how the preservation of engineering structures can be accomplished. It demonstrates the typical problems and opportunities that afflict many types of engineering landmarks. The article also suggests that historic preservation struggles are generally characterized by several common phases, which are analyzed to suggest ways for other sites to accomplish their preservation.
