Abstract
According to scientists who have reassessed the carcinogenic properties of asbestos, federal policies that do not distinguish among the different forms of the mineral are needlessly encouraging costly and dangerous asbestos removal projects in schools and other buildings. Three federal agencies regulate asbestos, and the resulting bureaucratic tangle will make any amendment of current regulations difficult.
