Analytical techniques employed for the examination of archaeological finds are reviewed: molecular spectroscopy, atomic spectroscopy, x-ray techniques, electron spectroscopy, and nuclear techniques. Major applications in the study of pottery, metals, stones, glasses, and pigments are reported.
