Abstract
To fill fissures in stone by an appropriate adhesive, it is necessary to isolate the environment of the fissure by a material which is easily water-soluble. Poly (vinyl alcohol) and animal glue appear to be useful. Methylcellulose is more difficult to remove. Normally it is also necessary to use materials like silicon rubbers to prevent the adhesive from flowing away. Hot melting polyethylene can also be used for this purpose. To connect the separating pieces of stone, a two component epoxy resin is very efficient. It can be injected by means of a syringe which is fitted with a thin plastic tube. After the treatment, the isolation can be removed to provide a clean surface.
