Abstract
To scientifically evaluate the effects of the first stage of the standard construction of conservation environment at Wuhan Museum, the quality of museum conservation environment were comprehensively investigated. Through the investigation it will improve the practical experiences and contribute to the work of improving museum environment in China. The conservation environment of rebuilt and unrebuilt relics storerooms, cabinets and boxes for relics, gallery, showcase and so on were surveyed. Several environment factors such as temperature, relative humidity, concentration of formaldehyde, moisture content of wood, illumination conditions were measured. The concentration of acid gas and VOC were analyzed through sampling. The results showed that the temperature, relative humidity, and illumination conditions were effectively controlled and met the requirements for relics’ conservation. The new cabinets, boxes and activated charcoal had some effects to control the microenvironment. While the materials used for decoration and display continuously distribute pollutants, which made the concentration of pollutant in showcases were relatively high. The intermittent operation of air-condition mad humidity fluctuating with short cycle. Some old storerooms and gallery were not well equipped to block the natural light, which made the illumination in some sites were high. Several strategy and advice were put forward.
