A series of boxes is described, made by the author in Denmark for transporting paintings. The sides are made of two 6 mm. Exterior grade plywood boards and two layers of heavy polyethylene film, one on each side of the insulation layer of 50 mm. Polystyrene. There are adjustable foam-covered aluminium racks to hold the paintings in place. Instructions in German, French and English on the lid of each box emphasize that the boxes should be left unopened for 24 hours in the showroom to acclimatize. Inside the boxes the R.H. Varies only 2-4% in conditions of 30-40% R.H. Outside. In Denmark, these boxes can be hired from the Museum Service in Viborg for approximately pound sterling20 per month; the cost of making them varied from pound sterling300-pound sterling550, depending on size.
