This article, adapted and abridged from a forthcoming book by the same author on new Anatolian village rugs with natural dyes, shows how natural dyes came to be used again in Anatolian carpets more than a hundred years after chemical dyes were first imported from Europe. It traces the origin and progress of the DOBAG project (a natural dye research and development project) for the reintroduction of traditional dyeing techniques, and assesses its social consequences, namely how it has transformed the market place, giving people the first opportunity for many generations to buy new, unmodified, natural-dyed carpets with authentic traditional designs. This development has created a measure of prosperity for impoverished villagers without disturbing their way of life. -- AATA
