Abstract
Discussion of basic research into the use of metal catalysis and radiation chemistry which are related to, or have been stimulated by, energy research. Fortunately, research by the author and his associates has both a direct and an indirect relevance to art preservation. Article is a short but thorough discussion copiously supported with chemical reaction equations, discussing such topics as heterogeneous and homogeneous metal catalysis; catalytic applications of isotope exchange; metal complexes, enzymes and analytical reagents; radiation chemistry, polymerization and grafting; industrial applications; and art preservation applications. The latter concerns radiation curing of water-reversible polymers useful in lining and repairs. -- AATA
