Abstract
Various sources of information indicate that goldsmiths held an important and special social position in various regions of the New World in pre-Columbian times. They discovered many important techniques for working metals such as annealing, casting by the <i>cire perdue method, autogeneous soldering, and coloring by the <i>mise en coleur process. Objects made by these techniques are illustrated and discussed. -- AATA
