Ultraviolet-light-induced free radicals in cellulose pulp and cellulose graft copolymers with methyl methacrylate or styrene were studied by electron spin resonance spectroscopy and the results compared with tensile strength measurements. The mechanisms of light stabilization and energy transfer reactions are discussed. Photoprotection by grafting is verified. -- AATA
