Abstract
A description of the spinning of cotton thread, first by hand and then on the machines designed by the three inventors. The practical problems of the use of early machines, the skills needed in the industry, and the thread produced by these methods are discussed from a vantage point of firsthand experience through 1) trying to keep these machines and replicas of them in working order and 2) public demonstrations of spinning. -- AATA
