The first priority in the theatre arts collection of the Humanities Research Center, University of Texas at Austin (USA), is re-housing. Everyday re-housing is carried out by collections staff at work-stations established throughout the collection. For rehousing of large groups or collections of materials, decisions are taken jointly by conservators and curators. It is accepted that the collection must be used, and that use is one of the most damaging factors. The two goals of safety and availability must be reconciled, even if this means changing earlier decisions. For example, originally posters were stored flat, in polyester sleeves. Vertical storage has been found not only better but cheaper and a considerable space saver. -- ICCROM
