Abstract
Near Mainz, a Roman pit was excavated which contained 11 pots containing pigments. Neutral lead carbonate, Egyptian blue, and white mixtures of quartz and calcite were identified by x-ray diffraction and x-ray fluorescence analysis. The neutral lead carbonate is explained as an alteration product of other lead pigments. -- AATA
