Abstract
168 hatchets from a hoard of the bronze age in eastern Germany were analyzed by atomic absorption spectrography. It was found that the hatchets were of a very homogeneous composition. Apart from some exceptions, copper varies between 93 and 97%, tin between 1 and 6%. There is no lead in this alloy. Arsenic was found between 0 and 2%, antimony between 0 and 0.8%. From the constant As-Sb ratio, it can be concluded that ores of only one mining district were used. -- AATA
