Abstract
The effects of four flame-retardant finishes on the moisture-related properties of cotton fabrics were studied. Application of THPCl-urea and THPOH-amide finishes produced a more rigid internal fiber structure that was less accessible to liquid water than the untreated cotton fiber or the fiber treated with Pyrovatex CP or THPOH-ammonia, which crosslinked a lesser amount than the other two flame-retardants. Water-drop absorbency and water wicking tests showed that the fabncs treated with Pyrovatex CP or THPOH-ammonia finishes were superior to the fabrics treated with the other flame-retardants in transporting water. All fabrics used in the study gave essentially similar results in a water-vapor transmission test. -- AATA
