The development and use of an emulsified inert organic solvent (Starfac 845A), that is stable in sodium hydroxide solution, for bleaching, scouring, and desizing of cotton and cotton/ polyester fabrics are described. Improvements in fabric absorbency, residual wax content (resist marks), fabric handle, and printing have been obtained. Mercerizing has been found to be unnecessary for fabrics which are to be dyed. -- AATA
