Abstract
The first part of this talk concerns a method of dry repairing broken frames of Islamic illuminated manuscript leaves, designed to give transparency, stability, flexibility and strength without bulk. Also described is a method of dyeing Japanese papers, and one European (paper adopted by the India Office Library and Records conservation department for makingaesthetically pleasing repairs. The second part of the talk describes how the same materials are used in the conservation of palm-leaf manuscripts. See also AATA 19-155.
