Abstract
A desctiption is given of the method by which a spectroscopic analysis was made of a copper celt from Etowah mound C, and samples of native copper from Michigan (3), New Mexico (1), North Carolina (1), and Georgia (3). A comparison of the relative abundance of fourteen trace elements in the copper showed that the celt was made from native copper of local origin. Until now it has been sup posed that most, if not all, of the pre-Columbian copper instruments found in the southeastern United States were manufactured from native copper from the glacial drifts of the western Great Lakes region. -- AATA
