During the 1984 World Art Market Conference a group of international museum directors produced a confluence of views on such matters as the financial constraints facing museums today, the spread of cultural consumerism and visual illiteracy. The problems engendered by large-scale exhibitions were discussed. It was stated that because of such block-buster exhibitions basic museum work such as conservation suffers. -- AATA
