Abstract
This paper deals with the examination, treatment, mounting, framing, and light protection of a pre-Columbian Peruvian textile of unknown geographic provenance. Four UV lightabsorbing materials are examined for effectiveness: Llumar, polyester film; Solarscreen, polyester film; Lexan, polycarbonate rigid plastic; UF-3 Plexiglas. Each of these materials has positive and negative features as well, and it should be noted that the UV-filtering materials only offered degrees of protection from ultraviolet-light-induced color change rather than total protection. See AATA 19-1527.
