Abstract
The application of a polymer in a water medium offers many advantages over true solutions. Difficulties have been encountered with the use of poly(vinyl acetate) and acrylic emulsions. Acrylic colloidal dispersions may be considered hybrids between emulsions and true solutions and exhibit the favorable properties of both. The smaller particle size and lower viscosity ensure better penetration and the near neutal pH's are more suitable for use on organic materials. The hardness and durability (without brittleness), along with greater stability, offer better protection for consolidated objects, especially those stored in adverse climatic conditions.
