Abstract
A review of the potential dangers of cellulose nitrate as a combustible fire hazard. The nature of cellulose nitrate is described. The ease of ignition and high rate of combustion is detailed. Characteristics of cellulose nitrate deterioration are chronologically described. Identification of the material is explained by describing the methods of two standard identification tests. A method to provide temporary storage and retard deterioration of cellulose nitrate by freezing is described and explained. See also AATA 18-759.
