The size and hyperboloid shape of cyclorama paintings has caused insurmountable problems in past conservation efforts. The Atlanta Cyclorama, however, is being preserved in situ, with practically no losses. A number of new approaches and devices especially designed for this project are described, such as: monorail and trolley arrangements supporting the painting and movable scaffolding, a vertical lining system with the help of an electro-magnetic pressure plate, a vertical vacuum hot table, and a newly formulated fire-retardant adhesive.
