Abstract
Sampling experiments have been conducted in order to investigate the adequacy of various sample sizes in textural analysis. Samples of 50 and 100 grains produce consistently differenl results from samples of 200 grains when the sample means are compared. This basis can be removed by ensuring that the grains measured are well dispersed across the thin-section, in which case 50 grains are considered adequate.
