Twelve samples from a fourteenth century mural painting in the Camera Domini of the castle of Chillon in Switzerland were examined by optical microscopy in reflected light and analyzed with the electron microprobe. The analysis permitted the identification of the support, the ground and the pigments and the precise definition, by the identification of the binding medium, of the painting technique used by the artist.
