A number of concerns related to the display of historic costumes are addressed in this paper. The focus is on methods of supporting the costumes while on display, particularly the use of various types of mannequins. Achieving the appropriate shape for the period to which a costume pertains is discussed. Hair style is another important consideration, along with use of accessories such as jewelry. Alternatives to hard form mannequins include special padded hangers, the best of which use ethafoam padding modeled to the correct shape. A listing of a number of commercial sources of mannequins suitable for museum use, along with descriptions of the product lines and prices, makes up the bulk of the paper.
