Abstract
The concepts implied in conservation are defined and related to the treatment of paintings, showing the changes that have taken place now that research workers in physical and chemical laboratories work with museum curators and restorers. The ethics of restoration are also discussed. (A paper read at the Museums Association Annual Conference, Plymouth, 1961).
