Abstract
Iodine scarlet is a red pigment used in the early 19th century. It fades rapidly, both in the dark and when illuminated. By extrapolation of vapour pressure figures, it is concluded that mercuric iodine fades in the dark by sublimation, and that light plays a minor role in fading by contributing energy but does not produce a photo-chemical changes.
