Melamine-formaldehyde resins have been studied indirectly with respect to their reactions and possible reaction mechanisms. An appropriate model compound is necessary to enable an increased understanding of these resins. N, N-dimethoxymethyl Ó9, Ó9, R0, R0-tetramethylmelamine has been synthesized as such a model compound. Its reaction with water and tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol is discussed. -- AATA
