Abstract
Results are presented from the analysis of a small group of Bronze Age sherds from Failaka (Kuwait) by atomic absorption and x-ray fluorescence. The ratio of MgO/CaO in the glaze is unusually high, averaging 3.2. A search of the literature has failed to reveal many values exceeding one, in either glasses or glazes. While the possibility of severe modification of the glaze composition due to weathering must be taken into account, it would appear that these results represent a glazing tradition using a material rich in magnesium.
