Abstract
This two-part article is the first in the Technical Notes series in the <i>Mid-Atlantic Archivist Newsletter published quarterly by the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC) at McKeldin Library, University of Maryland, College Park, Md. 20742. ($3 annual subscription rate.) A brief explanation of aqueous neutralization chemistry is followed by step-by-step instructions in manufacturing the neutralizing agent, and washing, neutralizing, buffering and drying paper. Descriptions of and use instructions for equipment are provided along with addresses for retailers and estimated (1974) prices. The article is intended for library and archive personnel planning to establish a small-scale, in-house paper conservation workshop. Conservation-minded bookbinders will find the article useful. (Addenda and errata appear in Vol. 4, No. 4, Sept., 1975.) -- AATA
