Abstract
Ancient lime mortars and concretes were investigated in-situ and tested in a laboratory. The materials used and technology applied were analyzed. The protection of walls and floors by means of polishing the multi-layer mortars was confirmed. The highly durable concretes were obtained by using different binders and aggregates. A method of protecting pavements by means of oil impregnation (as given by Vitruvius) is described. See also AATA 19-1792.
