The ceramic material for this study comes from the site of Zacatepechi, Morelos, Mexico. The particularly eroded condition of the ceramic remains was an obstacle to the application of traditional criteria -- such as decoration or form -- for preparing a typology. X-ray diffraction analysis and thin-section petrography proved to be appropriate.
