Abstract
Although a lot of damage was done by looters during the last fifty years at the burial grounds of Batan Grande, recent excavation has unearthed a well preserved temple which had been deliberately buried; the sand fill preserved the columns and clay floor. Major damage to column fragments was due to root growth and exposure to the elements where looters had uncovered the monuments. The construction technique of the columns is described. The burial method of the building was also described. Radiocarbon dating of the earliest construction at Huacas Soledad, as well as a column from a pyramid at Corte was done. From the Middle Horizon period metallurgy and mining were important industries, as indicated by slag deposits. -- AATA
