A large Japanese water basin made of bronze had to be restored. The basin consists of many different parts which had to be connected. Some pieces were broken or deformed. To connect broken pieces, soldering was preferred to the use of adhesives. Other pieces which originally were fixed by rivets, now were connected by tiny screws. The surface was carefully cleaned with a concoction of soap roots. Finally, the artificial patina was retouched by special chemicals providing brownish and greenish hues.
