Abstract
Methods of conservation of old Russian, Byzantine and Italian egg-tempera panel paintings used in the easel painting restoration studio of the State Hermitage for the last 25-30 years are reviewed. The methods of consolidating the painting and the ground with sturgeon glue water solutions, egg emulsion, natural and synthetic resins are described. The consolidation methods depend upon the character and degree of deterioration of the object. Methods of straightening and stabilizing supports are also given.
