Abstract
Stylistic differences and choice of materials distinguish tempera easel paintings from this period in North Russia from other areas of Old Russia. The tools used in preparing the panels have left characteristic finishes. Peculiarities of panel, canvas, ground, paint layer, and varnish are discussed; these facets make it possible to date the icons. See AATA 10-205 and 18-1439.
