Contains historic, artistic, and technical details of the goldsmith's art in Russia from the 17th to 19th centuries, i.e. organization of the goldsmith's trade, styles and influences, typical techniques and types of objects including Easter eggs, enamel, filigree, jewelry, lacquer, niello, orders, and watches. Snuff-boxes of the 18th century are treated in greater detail. New bio graphical material on the following masters has been found: Ador, Pauxié, P. Thérémin as well as Bolin, Fabergé, Hahn, Keibel, Nicholls & Plincke, and Ovchinnikov. As centers of goldsmithing, the cities of Moscow, Saint Petersburg (Leningrad), Veliki Ustyug, Toblosk, the Baltics, and Finland are mentioned. Four hundred hallmarks and maker's signatures are illustrated. The items illustrated are mainly in private collections (anonymous), some in museums. -- AATA
