Abstract
Several theories to explain the adhesion of paprus strips are briefly discussed. The author presents a new theory which attributes this adhesion to the dovetailing of the parenchymatous cells (which form the fundamental tissue of the strips) into the air lacunes of the cells in the opposite strips. This dovetailing remains permanent as the strips dry and shrink; thus, the cause of adhesion would be more of a physical than a chemical nature. See also 17-1130. -- AATA
