Abstract
Waterproofing has always been a problem in underground construction particularly so in a subterranean operation such as the Toronto Subway. Fiberglass, felt, and pitch have been used as waterproofing materials. Another big job involved in subway construction was that of providing adequate support for large buildings under which the tunnel passed. The Toronto Transportation Company was testing for durability, one hundred different paint samples on the ceiling of the subway.
