This clipping describes computer associative memory by Semionics or REM, recognition memory. Data is accessed by recognizing the contents of a memory cell rather than its address. This allows the memory to select files according to one or more criteria. To perform these functions the REM must contain its own logic. Semionics has cut the expense by taking the logic outside the memory chip, to allow cheap standard parts to be used.
