An historical introduction to dyes derived from natural sources provides a chronological account of the development of dye processes. The chemistry of the different dye procedures and the chemical structures of important natural dyes -- such as saffron and madder -- are discussed. Discussion is primarily limited to compounds that can be used as dyes on natural fibers. -- AATA
