The author describes the traditional form of Yoruba architecture both from contemporary evidence and from nineteenth century documents. Ordinary compounds are compared to the much larger and more ornate palaces and temples. The use of lateritic soil for the construction of multi-layered walls is described, as well as the construction of ceilings, potsherd-paved floors, etc. -- AATA
