Abstract
The fragility of the book covers necessitates the following protection requirements: a.) Both sides of the cover must be observable, without necessitating handling of cover. b.) No transparent films should be used to envelop the cover. c.) The box must be rigid to hold the cover flat and firm (no slipping must result from being carried or used.) d.) Cover should be able to be opened out whenever possible and so prevent damage caused by over-flexing of the joints. e.) Design must be adaptable to standard sizes. f.) Lining must be soft but made of non-catch material. g.) Box must conform perfectly to asymmetrical shape. h.) Should the cover be removed, it should be clear how it is to be repaired. Alternate designs of a stiffboard, buckram-covered box are reproduced. -- AATA
