Abstract
A brief introduction describes the possibilities and limits of the electron microprobe. Practical examples, such as the analysis of Greek bronze coins, gilded silverware, flaking plaster, black enamel-coated Greek pottery and two paint fragments illustrate the use of this technique in the examination of archaeological objects and works of art. The results obtained complete the other classic methods of analysis so that a more accurate image of the complex structure of the sample can be made.
