Abstract
The author briefly describes the material contained in the exhibition and catalogue Wash & Gouache. Using as her basic source material 19th century watercolor manuals and commercial catalogues, she argues for their further use in studies of these media. The author also describes common 19th century painting techniques which may lead to problems in conservation or art historical interpretation.
