A number of new finds of native copper and copper artifacts were discovered in some Karelian settlements characterized by the presence of asbestos pottery. The study of the metal proved that the late Chalcolithic population continued using native copper of hydrothermal origin. The technology of cold hammering of metal was practiced, the technologies of melting and hot hammering also emerged. Later, metalworking in Karelia underwent some improvement over the original local forms. The use of native copper in Karelia lasted during the local Chalcolithic, i.e., from the first half of the 3rd millennium BC up to the end of the 2nd millenium BC.
