The article presents the results of an investigation of 66 pieces of blacksmiths' production from Slavic sites of the 1st millennium situated on the left bank of the Dnieper. The materials were excavated by the late E.A. Goryunov. They demonstrate technological traditions of ironworking similar to those traced in the materials of post-Zarubinsty chronological horizon, including the sites of Penkovka, Kolochin, and Volyntsevo cultures. Among the materials of Penkovka culture, the artifacts made with the technology of interchanging iron and steel bands prevail. The artifacts made of one piece of iron are typical for Kolochin culture. The level of blacksmiths' production of this culture is close to that of the Volyntsevo group. Some complicated ironworking technologies are noticed in this teritory in the 7th and 8th centuries, when commodity production is thought to have emerged.
