This catalog of the exhibition section of the 2nd Italian National Congress on the restoration of wood, held in Florence, Italy, in 1989, includes 73 articles on aspects of the restoration of wood artifacts and wood in architecture. The first part concerns the history, use, and techniques of wood in buildings, ships, church furniture, intarsia, toys, ceilings, vaults and roofs, wood farming tools, garden furniture, <i>cassoni</i>. The second part concerns details specific restoration techniques, including flooring, doors, antique furniture, polychrome wood sculpture, panel paintings, and waterlogged wood artifacts. The majority of objects studied were Italian, although a number of articles also cover the use of wood in the architecture of Nepal, Albania, France (Rheims), Cyprus, Lapland, and New Zealand. The restoration of two Phoenician sarcophagi is also described. -- AATA
