Abstract
Discusses three fourteenth century, carved, ivory panels, recently acquired by The Cleveland Museum of Art. The author contends that the panels were originally the top, front, and back panels of a casket, but had been considerably altered in an attempt to deny their original form. The first part of the article discusses recent restoration. The author then describes the subject matter and composition. Through stylistic analysis, he concludes that the panels are workshop pieces, showing evidence of several hands. Of note are the extensive photographic records included in the article. -- AATA
